Following the successful completion of this Seminar, participants are one step closer to receiving their Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP®) certification.

This comprehensive seminar combines current best practices, evidence-based care strategies, and practical techniques that participants can immediately apply in their professional settings.

Participants will leave this seminar with practical tools to improve dementia care, strengthen communication with individuals and families, reduce challenging behaviors, promote safety, and enhance quality of life through compassionate, evidence-based care.

Whether you are new to dementia care or an experienced healthcare professional, this seminar provides valuable knowledge that can immediately be applied in your daily practice.

Course Overview

The Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia Care Curriculum Seminar is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

This 8-hour training includes:

  • 7 hours of Instructional material covering key aspects of Alzheimer’s & dementia care.
  • 1 hour for lunch & breaks to support participant engagement and retention.

The Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Care Seminar consists of the following modules, designed to provide comprehensive training in dementia care. Below is a list of each module:

  • Module 1: Overview of Dementia: Introduction to the types of dementia, symptoms, and progression.
  • Module 2: The “Why” Behind What We Do: Understanding the purpose and motivation behind person-centered care.
  • Module 3: Compassionate Communication: Techniques and strategies for effective and compassionate communication with dementia patients.
  • Module 4: Dementia-Friendly Environments: Creating safe and supportive environments for those living with dementia.
  • Module 5: Depression, Sleep, Delusions & Hallucinations: Managing behavioral changes and emotional challenges.
  • Module 6: Behavioral Expressions: Interpreting and responding to behavioral expressions of distress.
  • Module 7: Wandering and Fall Prevention: Strategies to minimize wandering risks and prevent falls.
  • Module 8: Activities of Daily Living: Supporting daily activities while promoting independence.
  • Module 9: Sexuality, Intimacy, and Dementia: Navigating sensitive topics with dignity and respect.
  • Module 10: Activities: More Than Keeping Busy: Meaningful engagement beyond basic activities.
  • Module 11: Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation: Identifying and preventing elder abuse and neglect.
  • Module 12: Partners in Care: Collaborative care involving family, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
  • Module 13: Diversity in Dementia Care: Understanding cultural differences in dementia care approaches.
  • Module 14: Spirituality, Religion, and End-of-Life Care: Addressing spiritual and religious needs during late stages of dementia.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this Seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Hospitals and Hospital Staff, Caregivers and direct care staff, Therapists (PT, OT, ST), Nurses & Pharmacists
  • Care/case managers and counselors, Legal service providers, Information and referral service providers
  • Public health departments and Social Service/ Adult Protective Service providers
  • Administrations and Program Directors, Activity professions / Therapeutic recreation specialists

Please note, although NCCDP respects the following occupations, they are not eligible to apply for the NCCDP for certification unless they are called Universal Workers. However, they are welcome to attend classes/seminars

Course Format & Schedule

This seminar is delivered live via Zoom and is typically held from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time (ET). Participants will receive Zoom access information prior to the course.

To receive credit for attendance and, when applicable, a certificate of completion or continuing education, participants must:

  • Join the seminar using the provided Zoom link.
  • Have a working camera turned on throughout the instructional portions of the seminar to verify attendance.
  • Participate for the full duration of the course, including required activities and discussions.
  • Recording, photographing, screen recording, or redistributing any portion of the seminar is strictly prohibited. All course materials, presentations, and content are the intellectual property of HCH EDU and may not be reproduced or shared without prior written permission.

Tuition & Fees

A per participant fee of $206 to register

  • Includes a non-refundable deposit of $100
  • Includes the digital student handout notebook fee.
  • For Company / Organization / Entity Sponsored Seminars, travel costs, if applicable, will be billed separately. This may include airfare, rental car, hotel & meals (at a rate of $30/day). Invoices will be provided.

Continuing Education (CE/CEU) Information

Participants seeking Continuing Education (CE) credit may apply directly through the appropriate state or national governing body. Approval of CE credit is generally determined based on the content of the course and the qualifications of the trainer. This seminar is typically approved for 7-12 CEUs, depending on the total length of the session and the governing body's requirements. CEUs are awarded solely for instructional classroom hours. Breaks, meals, and non-instructional periods do not count toward CEU credit. The seminar is commonly scheduled as an 8-hour session, with approximately 7 hours of instructional time. However, session lengths may vary based on scheduling and location.

The National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) has partnered with InsPAC to offer Nursing CEUs for professionals in most states. Participants should confirm with their individual trainer whether this partnership is applicable for their specific session. If applicable, participants will be required to pay a fee to apply for the Nursing CEUs. Details regarding the application process will be provided during the training session.

Certificate Information

The purpose of this Seminar is to provide healthcare professionals who care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia with specialized training to ensure appropriate, competent, and sensitive care. Following the successful completion of this Seminar, participants are one step closer to receiving their Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP®) certification.

Completion of this seminar DOES NOT result in Certified Dementia Practitioner certification. Seminar participants will be given a Certificate of Attendance which allows them to apply for the Certified Dementia Practitioner certification via NCCDP. Certification determination is the exclusive responsibility of NCCDP and its governing body.

Participants will receive detailed instructions on how to apply for certification on the day of the Seminar. As part of the qualification process for the Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP®) certification, applicants MUST attend the FULL training & apply directly to the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) within 30 days of completing the Seminar

Prerequisites / Preparation

To ensure a smooth and productive seminar experience, participants should:

  • Ensure all electronic devices, including cameras and microphones, are functioning properly before the session.
  • Aim to take the course in an area conducive to learning, free from distractions, and with a strong and stable internet connection.
  • Have their student workbook, writing utensils, and any preferred note-taking materials readily available

Course Materials

The course materials are available in digital format in an online library via Mimeo Digital (it's a reader app similar to Nook or Kindle). It is accessible via an app on your computer or tablet (iPad, etc.) or using a web browser (Google Chrome is recommended).

Print Student Handout Notebooks are available upon request for $42 each, plus shipping, handling & tax. Participant Expectations

Participants are expected to foster a collaborative and respectful learning environment by adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Maintain an open mind, respect differing opinions, and engage in constructive, respectful disagreement when appropriate.
  • Stay attentive and actively participate in discussions, exercises, and group activities. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and contribute to discussions with thoughtful and respectful responses.
  • Time Management: Respect the scheduled session times and return promptly from breaks. Attendance Certification will not be granted if participants miss more than 30 minutes of instructional time.
  • Complete sign-in and evaluation forms as requested, which will be retained for 2 years in case of audit.
  • Ensure the student notebooks remain unaltered; no content may be added or removed
  • Ensure there is no recording or image capturing of any kind throughout the seminar

Cancellation / Refund Policy

If for any reason the contract is cancelled by the client, the deposit is non-refundable. Travel fees will be refunded following the service provider’s (hotel, airline, car rental) policy. If the client cancels 7 days or less prior to the training date, the full balance of fees & travel costs are non-refundable.

Should HomeCare Hands Inc. cancel due to unforeseen emergencies or medical reasons, HomeCare Hands Inc. will not be held responsible or liable for any costs incurred by the client and a mutually agreeable new training date (s) will be arranged. Should HomeCare Hands Inc. and the client not agree on a new date(s), all fees collected by HomeCare Hands Inc. will be refunded within 30 days, excluding the deposit and the notebook fees, which are non-refundable. Travel fees will be refunded following the service provider’s (hotel, airline, car rental) policy.

The undersigned promises to pay for services in accordance with the Terms of HomeCare Hands Inc. If at any time, for any reason, the undersigned does not pay the HomeCare Hands Inc. for services when due, the undersigned agrees to pay and authorizes HomeCare Hands Inc. to bill the client account a service charge of 1.5 % per month or the maximum allowed by law, whichever is higher.

In the event it become necessary for HomeCare Hands Inc. to incur collection costs or legal fees associated with enforcement of the unpaid debt, or any portion thereof, the undersigned agrees and promises any and all additional costs, charges, and expenses including reasonable attorney fees if the account is placed with an attorney for collection.

Additional Information

Host Organization Responsibilities (Private Onsite Training Only)

The following information applies only to organizations hosting a private onsite seminar.

The company (if applicable) is responsible for:

  • Advertising the program to employees, including if the company will cover the cost of staff’s CDP applications or if each attendee will be responsible for their individual certification application & associated fees.
  • Providing HomeCare Hands Inc. with a list of attendees and their emails at least 14 days prior to the seminar and ensuring the appropriate amount of student handout notebooks are requested so that each attendee has their own & providing a finalized attendee list 7 days prior to the seminar.
  • Provide any available meals/snacks to participants during in-person seminar sessions
  • Providing equipment for in-person sessions including, but not limited to, a seminar space with tables/chairs, projection device(s), sound equipment, power source(s) and a stable internet connection.
